Orange Pineapple Smoothie

Grade 4 & 5 visit the MYP Personal Project | Setagaya

My favorite thing about the beginning of January (in addition to the days starting to get a little longer!) is that it always makes me feel like I’m getting a fresh start…a clean slate…a new beginning. So what better time to lay out a fresh set of goals! Last year I set out to accomplish 33 goals before my 33rd birthday. I sort of bit off more than I could chew, so instead of aiming for 34 goals this year, I’m shooting for 13 goals for 2013. I told you about my first goal last week -

1. Focus on eating a clean diet.

Last year I read a few great books (I especially loved Eat & Run by Scott Jurek and Find Ultra by Rich Roll) that really made me re-evaluate what I’m eating.

2. Be kind to myself.

I can be pretty hard on myself sometimes a lot of the time. I can hold myself to crazy high standards, and expect more from myself than anybody else will ever expect. I should be a little easier on myself sometimes.

3. Stop worrying about the things I can’t control.

This will also probably assist with number 2.

4. Be better at staying in touch.

I will reply to comments in 2013! And I won’t forget about emails once they fall off the main screen of my iPhone.

5. Run a sub-2 hour half marathon.

This was also a goal last year. I missed it my 5 seconds.

6. Cook with one new ingredient every month.

I’m open to any suggestions you want to throw my way!

7. Drink more water.

Nutrigenomics and Mental Health: How Diet Influences Brain Function

I recently read a recommendation that we should drink, in ounces, 50% of our body weight. So, that’s what I’m doing….I may float away at any time now.

8. Complete another Half Ironman.

I’ve talked about my love of triathlon here and there. I took the season off in 2011 when I went to culinary school, and had a hard time finding the drive to fully jump back into training last year. The drive and motivation is finally back, and I’m ready to start putting in the miles!

9. Be consistent about blog posts.

10. Get out of my comfort zone more often.

It’s a tough thing to do, but I’m always happy, and it always has great results when I do it. So, I should do it more often.

11. Spend less time online, and be present.

Pretty sure numbers five and eight and will (involuntarily) keep me on track with this.

12. Go to a food blogging conference.

Which ones do you recommend? Which are your favorites? Help, please!

13. Dream big….follow my dreams and believe in myself!
